Aosta

Roman ruins, mountain tops and relaxation! These are the ingredients of a short break to Aosta.

Aosta is a cute little town at approximately 2 hours by car from Geneva. It has a very nice car-free town center, which is therefore easy to walk around in with children.

Aosta has some very interesting historical sites to visit. There is an impressive old city gate in the middle of the town and there are quite a few Roman ruins. You can buy a combined ticket to enter all 4 Roman sites. The impressive ruins are in very good condition and there is also a sort of underground pass way (Cryptoportico Forense).

The entrance of the Cryptoportico is in front of the Cathedral of Aosta. We had never been in one of these pass way’s and we found it to be very beautiful.

From Aosta you can also take the cable car up the Pila Mountain for some beautiful views or hiking in summer: www.pila.it/en/, and there are castles to visit close by!

We have been in a very nice hotel in Aosta, located in the historical centre. When you arrive, you just park your car and you explore Aosta by foot from there. Restaurants and shops with local products are all close by. The hotel has nice family rooms and a spa! They had reserved the spa for only our family for an hour, so our children would be able to play and enjoy themselves without bothering the other guests. They absolutely loved the spa!
